Doug Buresh

President and CEO

Doug Buresh has served as KYMEA’s inaugural President and Chief Executive Officer since January 2018. In this role, he is responsible for establishing and executing the Agency’s vision, mission, and strategic direction on behalf of its municipal electric utility members. He oversees KYMEA’s operations and organizational performance while leading the development of long-term initiatives that support reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable power supply solutions.

Mr. Buresh brings more than three decades of power industry experience in executive leadership, integrated resource planning, power market assessment, strategic planning, market price forecasting, fuel procurement, asset and portfolio valuation, risk assessment, and public policy. Throughout his career, he has advised utilities and other energy-sector organizations on complex resource planning and investment decisions and has provided expert testimony and industry presentations related to power market forecasting and integrated resource planning.

Before joining KYMEA, Mr. Buresh co-founded Horizons Energy and held senior leadership and planning roles with the Indiana Municipal Power Agency, Ventyx-ABB, Kansas City Power & Light, and St. Joseph Light & Power. His career has included launching new organizations and business divisions, leading strategic consulting engagements, and guiding long-term power supply and portfolio decisions.

Mr. Buresh holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University, and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Management from Rockhurst University. He is a licensed professional engineer in Missouri and Indiana.
